Black Ankh nodded at Miriel. At least someone's being nice to me, she thought. She then breathed deeply. "Okay then," she tried not to cry in front of her and Axel then she would just embarrass herself. Her throat started to itch and her heart started to beat faster. " My name's Black Ankh," she tried to distract herself and wanted to be polite to Miriel. "I don't know why they have died." she said softly. Her face filled with sorrow and anger.
She couldn't believe that her family was gone just like that. I want them back, she kept on thinking. She then turned towards Axel. "Why did they have to die? Why?" she asked him. She then fell on her knees and weeped finally. She covered her eyes and still went on crying.

Axel was taken aback when she suddenly just fell on her knees in front of him and began crying almost violently. He didn't know what to say that would comfort her. he knew just from looking at the names on the graves that these people did indeed pass, but they had all had their time and were ready to move on. "It's... Not my place to tell you." Axel tried to be as gentle as possible. He knew how difficult accepting things of this nature was for some, something he could certainly sympathize with. He wondered where she had come from, looking the way she did. It was as if she was caught between two opposite elements: light and dark. He figured now would not be the best time to ask her about it.
His eyes drifted to Miriel. Her kind nature was something that was not in his blood, nor would he ever try to claim it was. He wondered where it came from, or whether his heart was just too hardened against the world to feel much compassion for anyone. This girl, however, was mourning over something that he understood better than most people.

Dropping down on her knee's by the girl she put a gentle hand on the girl's shoulder. "It's ok to let it all out. Black Ankh... Sometimes.. things like this happen when we least expect it, when our life most needs them it seems they partake from us. But you must be strong. Only through the storm is there ever a rainbow, and even though the winds of life may beat up, the rain makes us grow stronger for times that will come. " As she touched the girl before her she felt some something strange, like she was growing weaker. It was extremely slight and barely noticeable. She sensed a dark presence. "She must have the element of darkness." The thought crossed her mind and she withdrew her hand. How strange that a girl who could appear so light really contain darkness. Miriel smiled at the girl and said in a low tone. "You must be strong...for your family."
Such a dismal place, this cemetery, yet how much it drew people together. It was strange how this place seemed to open up peoples hearts, how it had a calming effect on them. The place itself was serene, but a strange haunting serene. So much death was in this place, so much sorrow, yet even here there was light. Yes it was the cold light of the moon, but anything else wouldn't have fit.

Black Ankh immediatly threw her tears away. She then breathed deeply. Black Ankh was calm now, but for how long? How long must she wait? "Okay," she whispered softly and looked at her grave of her baby sister. She lowered her head. "Okay, Axel. If you can't tell me. At least tell me this.Weren't their hearts so innocent? I've watched them suffer while they have been hanged and burned alive before that. I just can't take that image off of my head just like magic because it will always come back," she told him.

Axel glanced down for a moment and tried to gather his thoughts. He thought about the names of her family, trying to remember who they were. He didn't just want to say something fluffy and comforting. He knew she needed the truth, and he would give that to her. Besides, he didn't even know how to be fluffy and comforting. He breathed through his nose and looked at her straight in her still teary eye. "I believe they were. My memory of them is... fuzzy.. But I don't ever remember feeling anything evil within them. They were good people." He hoped that would be enough to satisfy her. Talking about those who had passed was not something he normally did, nor was he all that comfortable with doing it. It felt very personal, no matter who the person was.
There were some that stood out in his mind the most, like the one who tried to push him off their "boat." Axel had just stood on the black ground glaring at the man, which made him quit his antics immediately. Some were criers, others were emotionless as they neared the light at the end of their tunnel. Others tried to hold a conversation with him, asking questions and telling their stories of the life they left behind. Then there were those that were closest to him: the ones who were ready. They were satisfied to finally reach their ending, knowing their life had worn itself out. Axel's life was far from doing that, but he was still ready, all the same.

Black Ankh glanced her eyes away from him. "I don't know how you do your job. It must've been hard for you," Black Ankh then got and thanked Miriel for her kindness and advice. She also thanked Axel for telling her about her family. She then blinked and walked away. She walked away slowly and thought about the things she did with her family. She smiled at the thought. She remembered the time when she went on a boat with her father and caught a lot of fish.
With her mother she made a lot of dresses together. She had her baby sister inside of her stomach.

Miriel watched the two conversing, Axel seemed shocked by the question and he replied as gently as she had ever seen him. Miriel stared at Axel for a moment, he seemed so different right now then the last time she had seen him. Then her blue gaze flicked to Black Ankh, she had never thought about asking Axel that question. How had her father passed? did he slip away quietly, or was he sad about dying so young. Did he ask about her as he passed on, or did he just quietly go into the light. Miriel's eyes showed the question but she looked away at the tombstones that surrounded her, in deep thought.
When the sound of departing footsteps broke through her thoughts she looked up and waved slightly to the departing figure of Black Ankh. Turning to Axel she smiled brightly, "Who would have thought that a place like this could bring so many people together.' She smiled gently and looked up at the starry sky, "I wonder what Raphael is doing...and what he thinks of you making me a guardian.. " She looked down at her hand and fiddled with her sword hilt. Their last meeting had been so...diffucult for him. Could he ever look at her in the face again and see her for who she was, not what she was? Or would she always remind him of his deed against her father. The question was one that could only be answered by time.

Axel remained silent, eyeing (sp?) Miriel suspiciously. There was a question in her eyes, something she wasn't voicing. He didn't know if she would like him prying, considering the way he reacted when she had asked him about his scar. He didn't, however, think it could possibly be that bad. He stepped a bit more in front of her. "There's something troubling you." It wasn't a question. He also inferred that her questions about Raphael were just something to get her mind off whatever was bothering her.
His glanced only slid for a moment toward the retreating figure of Black Ankh, but they instantly shifted back to Miriel. If she refused to tell him, it served him right. Whatever the case, he still was curious. He wouldn't press her if she was uncomfortable with telling him; after all, he basically brushed her off earlier. Something inside him wanted to put her mind at ease. The feeling was so unfamiliar that it scared him. ...Am I becoming Raphael? No, if I was, I would have killed myself by now.

Miriel's gaze shifted from the stars to the dark figure before her. Slight color came to her cheeks as he asked this. She never knew that he could be go gentle. Usually his voice was sharp and as biting as a sword, but right now..now it was the total opposite. Her blue eyes peered into his red ones. The smile on her face turned to a sad one and she gathered herself to think. "I was just..wondering how my father passed on to the other world." Her mind was screaming at her, questioning why she was letting someone like Axel, her fathers enemy, know what was troubling her. What was it that she was opening up to? How could Axel, of all people care about why she was troubled, was it a trick of some sort. But Miriel put her mind at rest, she must not judge him by past deeds. Axel had a lot more in him than met the eye, and this was something that was totally unforeseen.
"The thought never occurred to me until Black Ankh asked about her family." Her gaze dropped back to the hilt of her sword, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, I'm sure it doesn't bring back warm memories"

Axel's brow furrowed, his expression serious. "Your father..." He paused and tried to remember. He knew that his own hands hadn't taken her father's life; he remembered every life that did. It was almost like an invisible barrier seperated him from the past events of the Guardian Wars, as if something didn't want him to remember. Interference..? It didn't feel like the natural process of forgetting, it felt very forced. To her comments, he just dismissed the thought with a sniff. "Nothing like that brings back, as you say, 'warm' memories. It wouldn't matter whether I told you or not."
He still, however, was absurdly at a loss as to why he couldn't remember clearly what had happened. "All I know is that he didn't seem to acknowledge anything... Everything was blank, as if he was trying to block it all out, as if it wasn't happening." This was truly all he could derive from the blurriness of all that had occurred at that time. He dug his fingers into his forehead, trying to force out whatever was hiding behind that barrier. "What...?" An almost firey heat engulfed his mind, giving him a headache like he had never felt before. Instantly he pulled away, and the pain faded. "What was that?" he queried, thinking out loud.

Miriel smiled slightly at his response about warm memories and was about to reply, 'true'. But Axel continued before she could. He seemed to be thinking harder on this one than he had with black Ankh, as if the whole this had been forgotten. " As if it wasn't happening." The words rang in her head. Her smile faded slightly as Axel suddenly seemed to be concentrating deeply. Something wasn't going as usual, something..was different this time around. But what?
"Axel...what was what?" Her voice was questioning as her eyes searched her face anxiously. What had happened?

Axel shook his head, the incredulous look still on his face. "I... I don't know." He rubbed his temple with one hand. "One moment, the memories start to come back, and the next, such a burning feeling... It was like fire.." He had never felt any heat like that unless he was facing actual fire. He couldn't understand it. Were his mental barriers weakening, or was it simple chance that this force was able to fend him off? Either way he really didn't want to take any chances.
This had completely shaken him up. He had no idea how to reach out to whatever had just attacked him without getting burned -literally- or worse. He felt that perhaps it was time to return back to the Other Universe and collect his thoughts to make a plan of action. He was thinking about taking Miriel with her; after all, she was technically a guardian now. And it'd probably p*** Raphael off a bit more... The idea just sounded better and better. "How would you like to come with me somewhere, I assure you, you've never been before?"

Miriel's brow furrowed in slight confusion and worry. Why had this memory hurt Axel also. What was going on in this world? Axel seemed to be shaken up, confused, just like she was. It was shocking to see him so shaken up, after all he had been around as a guardian for a much longer time than she had.
Her head tilted slightly at his question. Somewhere she had never been before.. She searched her head for a moment, but couldn't think of a place in this world that she hadn't covered. A deep curiosity burned in her eyes as a smile of excitement came to her face. Going to new places always excited her. 'A new place.. Well I could never turn down an adventure. But shouldn't we wait for Raphael?"

Axel rolled his eyes at her. "Always have to play by the rules, do you..." He leaned against the tip of his scythe. swiveling the blade back and forth. "I suppose the right thing to do would be to wait." He glanced up at her. "But then again, I don't always like to do the right thing." He began to turn in the other direction, grabbing his scythe and gesturing with his thumb. "Stay here if you want. I'm out." He walked at a dramatically slow pace, giving her time to think. He had no problem leaving her behind if she was going to be a stick in the mud.
Raphael probably had alot to attend to anyway, Axel thought with a smirk. One of his favorite pasttimes was figuring out how to drive that old man off his edge. However, he needed to stop thinking of Raphael as old, because they were technically the same age. But only technically, of course, he thought. He didn't want to think that they had any similiarities, that is, besides the fact they were both guardians. Loopholes were irritating things.

It didn't take long for Miriel to come to a decision and with a half smile she ran up to his side. "I usually play by the rules.... but for this once...I'll break them." She smiled fully at him and continued, 'Never could turn down an adventure, and you have awakened my curiosity."
She knew that she was probably going to regret this later, after all Raphael probably was going to be mad. Not the best first move as a guardian..yet....she didn't want to be left here until Raphael could find time to help. After all he was a busy man and had a lot on his mind. A sigh passed her lips, " For some reason I think I'm going to regret this." She laughed slightly and nodded to tell Axel she was ready.
