Beryl shrugged a wolfy shrug, replying, "Work is nothing. I've had to work to live for my entire life." Taking a running leap, she hurled herself into the cart, sniffing around to see what he carried. She couldn't pick up any one scent; there were too many at once. She wrinkled up her nose and complained, "You have too much in here. The smells are making me dizzy." She shook her head, trying to clear her head of the overwhelming smells. She was happy, however, to have someone to accompany. It made her feel like she belonged somewhere, instead of just wandering wherever the wind blew her.

"If you don't like the smells, you could always walk for yourself." Ryuu said with a hint of annoyance in his voice when the wolf began to complain about the smell. All the things in that cart is what Ryuu needed and he intended to not waste anything unless it was actually needed to be wasted. Ryuu just kept on pulling and pulling his cart after this not really saying anything just pulling as if no one was there. He then looked back behind and to the wolf asked a question " So do you have a name?" Curious to know if he ever needed to address the wold for something. He didn't really know how to talk to this wolf. Who has talked to a wolf before?

Beryl just shook her head and plopped down on her hind quarters, not wanting to get out of the cart. "I'll deal with it." Her nose would probably be itching later, but it was worth not walking all the way to wherever they were going. Her ears perked at his awkward question. It's like he's never talked to anyone before. "It's Beryl." There was a silence between them for a few moments. She asked hesitantly, "Do you have a name?" He should have already know n not to just treat her like any other animal. She was far too intelligent for that.
With her sharp sense of smell, she was able to pick up the scent of small little animals scurrying around in the tall grasses. Even if this place was half dead, it was certainly more alive than where she used to live. But where am I supposedly living now? she questioned in her head. She didn't know what this guy expected of her, or where in the world he was even going.

"It's Ryuu." Ryuu said shortly after the question where it went to silence once more. This was a common thing for the mercenary to be in this sort of way. Silence was Ryuu's friend for years of his life and he was just used to do this. It didn't bother him anymore even though it was quite boring. This was Ryuu's life from day to night until he found a client to work for. Until he can actually find a city to find a client, Ryuu was expecting this sort of thing even though there was a talking dog along for this ride.
The only noise that could be heard was the wheels of the cart and maybe the couple things moving from this cart. The only other things listenable to Ryuu was his things and his cart and nothing else. He just went on and on and on until he stopped for a moment and looked at the sun. It seemed to have gotten hotter and more deadly so Ryuu stopped for another break in this place of death.

Beryl was surprised when he suddenly stopped. "Tired already?" she barked. She still was full of stamina, even after her ordeals during the past few days. It was hot, that much she knew. It didn't, however, feel any worse than the climate she was used to. She guessed that humans didn't have the same level of energy as she did. It explained why they walked so slow. That also could be the fact that they only had two legs. She hopped down with ease from the cart then began sniffing around for the scent of other animals.
"How long have you been out here?" she asked, not entirely interested. She just felt more comfortable with small talk than absolute silence. He didn't seem like a real social guy, she noticed. But hopefully he wouldn't give her the silent treatment the whole time they were traveling wherever in the world they were going.

" It's hot if you haven't noticed. Unless you want me to die, I need some water to go along. " Ryuu said to Beryl and then began to drink more water from his canteen. It was a quick drink and then he put it back in his cart. Ryuu looked around for life and nothing was within range of him. It was empty within his eye limits and then he turned to Berly. She was just sitting there looking as if she wanted to go out and run around. This wasn't a bad idea for a wolf though he didn't actually know how to deal with wolves. Especially talking ones who seemed to be needing life in a life less place.
"Couple of days." Ryuu responded to the question. He hadn't been here long enough to start dying but was here enough to hate this place. This was probably because of the heat or was because it was boring. Ryuu didn't mind silence but he didn't like boring times. He rather be working then moving a cart around on and on and on with out anything. Ryuu was just doing this to find work.

Beryl sneered at his attitude. "Alright, alright... I was just asking." She began to wander around in a circle, searching for some form of entertainment. This place was pretty dull, and hot. "Just like home," she muttered to herself. With her tail wagging a mile a minute, she stuck her nose in the air and began to sniff. Something had to be here besides them. They weren't the only two things left in the world. "c'mon, an injured rat, a dead deer, something..."
Suddenly her ears picked up. She heard rustling. She instantly went into stalk mode, moving quietly and gracefully through the grass. Her prey was just through that stalk. She leaned down, began to snarl, and then leaped forward. Her heart stopped when she saw what she thought was prey. A poisonous rattle snake was slithering through the grass right where she had just jumped, and it was too late. She landed two feet in front of its flicking tail, frozen with fear.

Ryuu watched as the wolf went off the way from searching around his stuff. He didn't mind her going and sort of thought she wouldn't return to the cart. Ryuu wouldn't hesitate to leave without the wolf but if she came along, he would mind. Ryuu did sort of enjoy the company of someone else with him. It was pretty much better then being kept in a quiet area with nothing. Ryuu just let this go along and watched this wolf go.
He didn't expect anything wrong from happening. The wolf was a wolf. Strong, and agile. Most things in the area would be killed by the wolf and expected Beryl to be strong. Ryuu just waited for the wolf to come back with some sort of animal.

Beryl looked around, too scared to call out for help. With the carefullest movements, she backtracked a few feet away from the snake then turned on her hind legs and ran like the wind. Her heart was racing as she began to hear the rustling of grass behind her. The only thing she could think of was panic. She had forgotten entirely of Ryuu, his cart of odd smells, any of that. Her only thought was to escape as quickly as possible. Her feet pounding against the ground, she traveled far away from where she once was. Snakes were far too agile for her to attempt to take, especially when she was out of practice. She ran in any direction that was away from the slithering creature. ((Ben said he would kill Beryl for me, so she's outta the thread ))
