Kaylen stood watching the water leap and twirls down the smooth stones that made up Rainberry Falls. Her blue eyes flashed with happiness as she clasped her hands behind her back. What a place this was. How the water's laughter rang through the air. Happiness seemed to fill the place, yet behind the laughter there was a sadness, a wanting. Kaylen's brow furrowed slightly as she dipped her hand into the water and said quietly, "Don't worry, someday your guardian will be back, someday you will not have to mourn for the passing of the old one." even though Kaylen seemed young, for her form was slender and fragile looking, her eyes seemed to have a simple happiness and wisdom that would shock you when you looked at her.

Hades stepped onto one of the rocks at the top of the falls. He wanted to go for a swim and cool off. Something was making his body more heated. He had on only shorts that went right past his knees. His legs tensed as he jumped. The air was swiftly passing him. He went into the water with no more than a medium sized splash. His body flowed through the liquid as if it were liquid itself. His head came out on the surface as he spotted a girl with flaming red hair. One hand shaped the shadows around it into claws underwater.

Kaylen’s eyes turned to the sound of water falling down on itself. There was a disturbance in it. Her blue eyes flashed as she saw the dark head of a man appear above the watery depths. Kaylen stood straighten as the ever present smile came to her lips. “Hello!!” her voice was light and carefree. In fact everything about her seemed so light and bright. A smile filled her face with a pure innocent tone, but her eyes told a different story. They were a clear blue, yet had knowledge in them that made you stand back.
Her slender form seemed like you could break it with a single touch. So delicate, so gentle, yet strength resided in her eyes. “I don’t think we’ve met! I’m Kaylen!”

Hades swam over to the shore and sat. "Hi." He said in his normal voice. He sounded just as wise as his 500 years would let you think. "My name is Hades." He said to her, not taking his eyes off his own shadow. That was his quickest escape route. He twisted his hair and the water in it poured out in a small stream between his fingers. He let it go and it fell onto his back as usual. The dark mass of hair had been cut many times these hundreds of years. Yet it was still long enough to cover most of his spine. His eyes went to the girl and studied her. Her hair was nearly as red as his eyes.

Kaylen nodded happily as she clasped her hands together in front of her. Closing her eyes her head tilted slightly to the side as she gave a sigh of of contentment. When those blue eyes opened she glanced down at him before plopping herself by him, her knees were up by her shin as she stared down at the water. Gathering the water in her hand and let it filter from them. “Amazing stuff water….” She said lightly. She glanced at him and smiled again. Observing his red eyes that seemed so sad, and his long dark hair. He was undoubtedly an elf, the proof was his ears that poked out from behind his hair and tapered to points. A smiled came her her lips, though this time something that was more mischievous. With one smooth movement her hand brushed against the waters surface, creating a small wave that splashed Hades. Hiding her mouth behind her hand she let out a giggle of delight.

Hades suddenly found himself being splashed with water. He looked over at Kaylen and smiled a little. He splashed some water back. She was lucky she had been born female. If not, well...she would have been about two seconds after the splash. His shadow silently slid from the connection Hades and it had and across the ground behind the girl. It rose up and poked her twice in the side. Almost instantly it was back to a normal shadow. Hades just slightly grinned.

Kaylen giggled when suddenly she felt two pokes on her side. Her eyes widened as she glanced down. Nothing was there. A look of astonishment came to her eyes as her mouth dropped opened slightly. Looking around her she didn’t see anything. That is until she saw a smirk on the guys face. Her eyes narrowed slightly as the mischievous smile still played on her lips. Reaching down she sent another wave heading toward him, this one was bigger than the last.

Hades saw the bigger wave. He whipped his hand to the opposite side of his body, sending out black blades from each fingertip. They rammed into the wave, causing it to splash on a bigger area. Hades laughed quietly. At least it didn't only hit him. From what he could tell, it was going to hit both of them anyway. He shook his body to get some of the water off. His ears twitched for some reason. He was going to ask why she was splashing him, but he figured not to. It was probably just one of those reasons, fun.

Kaylen shrieked slightly as the wave seemed to come back at her and covered her white dress with water. But then her laughter mixed with the laughter of the stream. Looking at Hades she gave him a look of mock horror. "how dare you splash a lady!" even though her face seemed to be showing anger, her eyes sparkled with playfulness. "The nerve of men these days!" She crossed her arms across her chest as her face got an exaggerated pout.

Hades watched her as she faked her little scene. He was laughing on the inside. He figured he would play along. He made a shocked look, as if he had done something unthinkable. "How could I?" He said sadly. His eyes burned with a playful red. He had not had fun like this, or any fun really, in the last hundred or so years. "What can I do to make it up to you?" He asked, still faking the shock a little.

Kaylen looked into his deep red eyes that were flashing with playfulness. Shifting her hands to her hips she lifted her head and closed her eyes in a way a spoiled brat would when they didn't get what they wanted. "Let's see..." She tapped her foot as she thought. "What shall the punishment be.. It must be something perfectly dreadful..." Then she turned and walked toward him, leaning toward him until she was close to his face. Anger seemed to be written on her face, but her eyes still held playfulness. "I know...You shall be poked.. with the poke of death." with that she raised her slender white hand and guestered dramatically with her finger. Then she stood still, concentrating on her finger, mumbled randomness that wasn't anything of a spell but rather just random words.. Then she pushed her finger on his forehead, with such strength that it would cause him to be pushed backward into the water.

Hades stared into her eyes when she was face to face with him. She didn't really scare him. Nothing could, not after what he had done. "The poke...of Death?" Hades said, not really a question but just a statement. Suddenly her finger was on his forehead, pushing hard. He fell right into the water with a splash. He came up and looked at her. "Then you shall suffer the horrifying...Shadow hug!" He said with a smile. His shadow flew from under him and wrapped its arms around Kaylen. It held her for a second then dispersed back to reform the normal shadow.

Kaylen had a shocked look when a shadow materialized from the ground and gave her a big bear hug. The shocked look didn't last for long, for it soon disappeared into a smile and she laughed once more. Plopping down on the ground she caused a little flower to come from the earth. It's stem was slender and a deep green, it's petals a rich silver that branched out to a pure white. Stroking the petals gently she smiled up at Hades, "Well I do believe I have been defeated!". She looked down from the ground and continued, "So where do you come from and what brings you here? Surely it isn't just the beauty."

Hades sighed once she asked him the questions. "Where I am from doesn't exist anymore. Seeing as I killed all of them." He said the last part so quietly that she probably wouldn't hear it. "And I am here because I have been wandering for the past year searching for a place to call home. I may have found it, so I just want to explore the world a little first." He said, his eyes filled with a slight happiness. The reason for his home village not existing is because he burned it to the ground. Sending his people to their gods. Hopefully they learned their lesson. His eyes formed a glare into the sky for a moment. Then they went to the water at his feet.

Kaylen studied the man before her once again. Her sweet disposition never failing. This man had been through a lot it seemed. She sensed a sadness around him. Slowly it was fading, but for it to totally fade away would take a long time. For the emotional wound he held was deep.
"Well this world is full of many great things!" She stood up and plucked the flower she had created from the ground she spun around in a circle, saying, “It is full of such beauty and light! The trees shading the ground beneath, the sun shining brightly in the sky, and the animals filling the world with their chatter.” Kaylen clasped her hands in front of her as her eyes lifted toward the sky. “Yes, nature is a blessing to everyone.” She smiled contentedly before smelling the flower she had created. Looking up she eyed it with critique. “hmmm…” She murmured as she turned it around in her hand. Then her face brightened with a smile. “Even the smallest, poorly made flowers can brighten up ones day.” She turned toward Hades, “Don’t you think?”
